Job Description

Oversees the clinical and operational functions of the Computed Tomography (CT) service, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, accreditation standards, and hospital policies. Leads quality improvement initiatives, risk assessments, and workflow optimization to maintain high standards of patient care and imaging excellence. Performs and supervises all CT procedures, ensuring proper patient preparation, imaging techniques, and equipment calibration. Mentors and trains CT technologists, enforces safety protocols, and monitors inventory and equipment readiness. Collaborates with radiologists, hospital leadership, and other healthcare professionals is integral to optimizing patient care and procedural efficiency. Engages in professional development, performance improvement programs, and departmental initiatives to support the continuous growth and excellence of the Medical Imaging Department.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with safety regulations by performing and monitoring safety checks for patients, employees, and visitors.
  • Implements processes to maintain service levels in compliance with Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Joint Commission International (JCI) standards, continuously monitoring and improving efficiency and quality of service.
  • Oversees the clinical and quality aspects of the CT service under the direction of the Medical Imaging Director.
  • Performs all requested CT examinations independently, adhering to hospital and departmental guidelines. Participates in daily clinical work rotations and out-of-hours stand-by schedules.
  • Conducts the full range of CT procedures, including patient instruction, positioning, technique selection, and equipment calibration, to ensure high-quality imaging.
  • Develops, implements, and provides reports on CT quality control (QC) test protocols based on best practice standards and professional guidelines.
  • Supervises and trains technologists in daily CT procedures, ensuring adherence to safety and operational protocols.
  • Monitors the use of CT-specific supplies, ensuring that minimum and maximum par levels are maintained.
  • Acts as a mentor, clinical instructor, and educator, providing documented progress evaluations for new and non-licensed CT technologists.
  • Collaborates closely with radiologists to fulfil procedural needs and requirements.
  • Conducts annual risk assessments for the CT service, proposing action plans to address identified risks.
  • Develops and implements procedural and equipment-based competency assessments, conducting annual reviews of technologists’ skills.
  • Reviews patient requests and previous studies to determine unique procedural requirements before performing examinations.
  • Assigns and monitors CT technologists for daily and weekly checks on rooms and equipment to ensure readiness for patient care.
  • Ensures the availability and readiness of equipment, accessories, and supplies while maintaining cleanliness and organization in CT rooms.
  • Participates in monthly environmental rounds within the CT department and hospital-wide rounds.
  • Assists in following up on incident reports, accidents, unusual occurrences, and patient complaints related to CT services as directed by the Medical Imaging Director.
  • Engages in professional development through seminars, workshops, and industry affiliations to maintain expertise.
  • Represents the CT department in the hospital and departmental meetings.
  • Utilizes Information Technology (IT)-based systems such as Radiology Information System (RIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) for clinical and administrative tasks while maintaining data confidentiality.
  • Participates in and develops information for CT-specific performance measures as required.
  • Adapts to change with a positive attitude and complies with hospital policies on safety, infection control, and security.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of performance improvement concepts and actively engages in performance improvement programs within the CT setting.
  • Complies with Hospital Policy and Procedures regarding safety, infection control and security (Codes of Ethics, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPAA) requirements and patient rights).
  • Participates in and develops information for CT and Radiography-specific performance measures as required.
  • Understands performance improvement concepts and demonstrates understanding by defining performance improvement, and verbalizing/describing at least one major goal of a performance improvement program within the CT and Radiography setting in the last 12 months.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Radiography/Radiology Technology or Medical Imaging
  • Active home country registration
  • Dubai Health Authority (DHA) License

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of recent Computed Tomography (CT) experience.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge and practice of radiation protection and safety measures.
  • Knowledge of positioning techniques and computed tomography protocols to ensure high-quality imaging results.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) or accreditation standards.
  • Skills in effective communication, patient assessment, monitoring, and care.
  • Skills in mentoring and facilitating clinical instruction for onboarding non-licensed CT technologists.
  • Skills in conducting quality control (QC) tests and implementing continuous performance improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy in CT imaging techniques.
  • Ability to manage and oversee clinical and quality aspects of the CT service, ensuring compliance with regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Ability to engage in professional development, continuing education, and training programs.
  • Ability to use IT-based systems such as RIS and EMR for clinical and administrative documentation.
  • Ability to speak and write in English fluently.
