JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists with the responsibility for ensuring the effective, efficient and smooth running of the Cardiac Cath Lab providing unit clerical and interpreter support. Provides secretarial support to the Cardiac Centre physicians within the time constraints of the primary function. 

The Medical Transcriptionist is primarily responsible for the timely and accurate transcription of pathology reports.

The Medical Transcriptionist also assists with specimen reception procedures in the Cardiac Cath Lab  of the Department and all associated clerical tasks.  The position also involves secretarial duties for the Department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate of an accredited secretarial program.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Medical Terminology.
Experience in a Cardiology preferred.
Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of computer applications (especially dictation systems) is a prerequisite.   
 
 
QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma
Graduate of Business Secretarial College or equivalent experience
Fluency in written and spoken English.
Minimum of 50 wpm typing speed.
Shorthand an advantage.
Computer literate/familiar with word processing packages, e.g. Word, Excel and Power Point, Internet and e-mail systems.
Knowledge of medical terminology an advantage.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Three years’ experience in similar position.
Exposure to Customer Service Training.
